In the ideal world, small businesses would only face challenges that match their size.
We all know that’s not the case, making it all the more impressive that Colorado’s small enterprises persevere and succeed.
That’s why, each year, Denver Business Journal celebrates those companies that make up 99.5% of all Colorado businesses and employ nearly half of the state’s workers with the Small Business Awards.
To be considered, companies must be for-profit, locally owned, headquartered in the Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties) and have 100 or fewer employees.
Nominees were scored based on historical achievements, contributions to the industry and local economy, community impact and other factors spelled out in the nomination form.
Meet this year’s finalists, organized alphabetically and by size category, below:

Previous DBJ Small Business Awards winners were not eligible for consideration. Finalists that didn’t take the No. 1 spot in past Small Business Awards programs were encouraged to try again.
On May 16, the DBJ will also give out another, special honor: the Trailblazer Award. Winners of the Trailblazer Award are small, local businesses with a history of success in the Mile High City and beyond. They serve as models for other small businesses in the area.
Last year’s Trailblazer was Fentress Architects, a Denver design firm with a global reach that is behind some of Colorado’s most iconic structures.

The 2024 Trailblazer Award winner will be revealed in the coming weeks.
